The Benefits of the Montessori Method of Education

The Montessori method of education, fundamental to our school’s philosophy, is based on sound principles which have been proven successful over many years. Not faddism, but lasting facts have supported this system of education which allows the child freedom in an environment which is thoroughly prepared with sensorial stimuli.

This method is “process” oriented. The Montessori approach to learning will utilize the child’s absorbent mind by providing self-directed materials which develop motor skills and prepare for his/her intellectual development. The child’s energies will work toward intellectual and social fulfillment of his/her individual potential.

The preparation of the AMS certified Montessori teachers within the school involves the study and observational skills, child development and curriculum appropriate for young children in their sensitive years of preschool growth and development. This training will be rendered to the child along with the sharing and creating of a warm family atmosphere within our Montessori Center.

Our school philosophy will aid to offer the child an aesthetically beautiful and appropriately prepared sensorial environment here in Hawaii. Within this environment, creative steps will encourage the child to become aware and inquisitive as to the wonders of the world.

We pledge that the process of education will rule over product and that character development will share in importance with the unfolding of the child’s cognitive potential. Our goal is to maintain a true Montessori environment where the philosophy is not only spoken about, but fully lived.

Montessori children also displayed better abilities on the social and behavioral tests, demonstrating a greater sense of justice and fairness. And on the playground they were much more likely to engage in emotionally positive play with peers, and less likely to engage in rough play […] Among the 5-year-olds, Montessori students proved to be significantly better prepared for elementary school in reading and math skills than the non-Montessori children. They also tested better on “executive function,” the ability to adapt to changing and more complex problems, an indicator of future school and life success.
